QUETTA: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) Balochistan University on Wednesday staged a noisy protest on Sariab Road outside the University demanding the safe release of kidnapped Prof. Dost Muhammad Tareen.
Unidentified armed men abducted Mr. Tareen, a Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Balochistan on Monday night from Satellite Town area of Quetta. Despite the lapse of two days, there is no clue about his whereabouts.
Angry protestors staged a sit-in on Sariab Road and blocked the road for vehicular traffic. They were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demands. The Professors and Lecturers chanted full throat slogans against government and law enforcement agencies for their failure to curb the incidents of kidnapping for ransom.
The protestors expressed their strong resentment over the rising incidents of kidnapping for ransom, saying now the culprits are not even sparing the teachers. “It has become lucrative business in Balochistan and powerful people of the province operating kidnappings,” said Kalemullah of ASA. “We demand from government to ensure the safe release of Prof. Dost Muhammad Tareen.
The protestors said that it seems government and police have given free hands to criminals in Balochistan where kidnappings, targeted killings and street crimes are frequently taking place.
The Association warned that they will intensify their protest if Prof. was not released. “We will not attend the classes at University of Balochistan and other colleges,” they warned.
